The Life that Came

In 1999, Alessandra Sanguinetti began working on a series of photographs documenting the lives of two young cousins named Guille and Belinda on their family’s farm outside Buenos Aires. Cultivating an intimate relationship with the pair, Ms. Sanguinetti collaborated with the girls for the next nine years, constructing images inspired by the dreams, fantasies, and fears that accompany the psychological and physical transition from childhood to adulthood. As a continuation of the exhibition shown at Yossi Milo gallery in 2004 entitled The Adventures of Guille and Belinda and the Enigmatic Meaning of their Dreams, this second installment, The life that came, shows the girls becoming young women as they encounter the realities of growing up, relationships, and motherhood. This will be Sanguinetti’s third exhibition at Yossi Milo Gallery in New York.

Alessandra Sanguinetti was born in New York, 1968, raised in Argentina from 1970 until 2003, and is currently based in New York. She is a recipient of a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship and a Hasselblad Foundation grant. Her photographs are included in public and private collections, such as the Museum of Modern Art NY, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. She is represented by Yossi Milo Gallery in New York City and Ruth Benzacar Gallery in Buenos Aires. Her book, “On the Sixth Day,” was published by Nazraeil Press in January 2006. Sanguinetti has photographed for The New York Times Magazine, LIFE, Newsweek, and New York Magazine.

::: rineke dijkstra :::

The Dutch photographer and video-artist Rineke Dijkstra was born in Sittard in 1959. After studying at the Gerrit Rietveld Akademie in Amsterdam Rineke Dijkstra first began working as a free-lance photographer for journals like Elle, Avenue and Elegance. At that time she portrayed scholarship-owners and winners if several art-awards by order of art funds. Since the beginning of the 1990s Dijkstra worked with a large format camera and concentrated on portrait-series in colour. The photographer's first independent series - her famous beach portraits 'Beaches' - came into existence between 1992 and 1996. The numerous work consists of body-photos of children and adolescents, who were photographed by Rineke Dijkstra in their bathing attire at the beaches in Europe and the eastern coast of the USA in front of the ocean as a simple but highly symbolical background. In 1994 a series of large format portraits of bullfighters and a series of three women, who were being photographed by Dijkstra soon after giving birth with their babies on their arms, followed. Her strictly conceptual approach follows a tradition which reaches from August Sander and Diane Arbus until today. Her works go beyond documentational photography and record moments, in which the portrayed are exposed to changing processes caused by developmental or extreme physical or psychological experiences. Since the mid-1990s Dijkstra also uses the camcorder and transfers her artistic aim to this new media. Young disco-visitors, which are portrayed in their behaviour patterns and poses, are in the centre of the videos 'The Buzzclub', 'Liverpool', 'UK/Mysteryworld', 'Zaandam'. 'NL' (1996/97) and 'Annemiek' (1999). Rineke Dijkstra received international approval with her invitation to the Biennale in Venice in 1997. Her works can be seen a.o. at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, at the Folkwang Museum in Essen and and the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

niallobrien

Born in Dublin in 1979, Irish photographer and filmmaker Niall O'Brien studied fine art photography in the renowned Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology.

He has exhibited at a number of Irish and English shows and has many awards to his name, including the Irish Professional Photographer's Association Rex Roberts Medal and two main categories in the ICI Photographer of the Year Award. In October 2008 Niall was accepted into the top 20 portfolios in the International Portfolio Review, Bratislava. He continues to exhibit throughout Europe.

His commissioned work is of a gritty, contemporary style, which seamlessly blurs the boundaries between the conceptual and the aesthetic. His growing collection of intimate portraits concentrates on unusual subjects with whom Niall develops a close working relationship. Niall's long-term project "Superheroes" came from a film which he made in 2006 and has been an on-going documentary about adolescence and desire.

Niall's fresh and innovative work continues to draw both attention and acclaim.

°° - Unfalling, MERT AND MARCUS -°°

Mert and Marcus are Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, fashion photographers. Their work and style is heavily influenced and shaped by the photography of Guy Bourdin and also the use of digital manipulation which they have pioneered the use of. They have defined the look of the past decade and as a duo are one of the most respected and acclaimed photographers working today.

Mert and Marcus, both born in 1971 in Turkey and Wales, respectively, met for the first time in England in 1994 after having worked for a brief period in completely different areas, the first in classical music and the second in graphic design. Marcus was an assistant photographer and Mert was a fashion photo modeler. After working together in the photography business, they decided to create a team. When they showed their first photos to "Dazed and Confused", the London fashion magazine, they immediately made the cover.

Strongly known for their portraits of sophisticated, powerful women, Alas and Piggott's photos lend an air of grace and unmistakable perfection to advertising. "The difference between us and other photographers is that we care a lot about appearance," says Alas. "We spend most of the time in the make-up and hairstyling rooms". The team works today for magazines such as Vogue USA, Vogue Italia, W Magazine, Pop Magazine, Numero and Arena Homme Plus. Some of their major clients are top fashion labels such as Louis Vuitton, Missoni, Giorgio Armani, Roberto Cavalli, Fendi, Kenzo and Miu Miu. They created the images for perfume houses such as Gucci, Yves St Laurent, Givenchy and Lancôme. Alas and Piggott have also worked with celebrities of the caliber of Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Linda Evangelista, Gisele Bündchen, Björk, Lindsay Lohan, Scarlett Johansson, Charlotte Rampling, Kylie Minogue, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and most recently Victoria Beckham for a Giorgio Armani shoot.[1]

They also made photographs for the cover art of Rob Dougan's Furious Angels CD. [1]

Currently they are exclusively signed with the agency Art Partner.
