To me beauty is perfected appearance; and there is no more accurate way to discuss what it is that we all aspire to than by relating it to beauty as an ideal. But though I define beauty in terms of appearance, I do not subscribe to the common belief that beauty is in the eye of the beholder; this is a simplistic and dismissive view that has allowed many people to deflect the discourse of art away from both the beautiful thing and the person who apprehends its beauty. For it is only when we are able to allow ourselves to experience the perfected nature of a thing that we are able to experience its beauty; simultaneously, only when a thing is truly perfected in all the conditions that allow it to exist may it present itself to us as truly beautiful...maisondesprit
