** Shen Chao-Liang **
















































Shen Chao-Liang was born in Tainan, Taiwan, in 1968. He obtained his master degree from the Graduate School of the Applied Media Arts, National Taiwan University of Arts, Taiwan. Shen worked as a photojournalist and vice-convener at the Liberty Times, and the Artist in Residence at National Central University. He has been dedicated to feature photography since 1993. From his early works of Reflections of Nan-Fang-Ao (2001) to the latter series of YULAN Magnolia Flower (2008) and Tsukiji Fish Market (2010), Shen has been broadly recognized by his sophisticated style of image creation and commitment to documenting the evolution of Taiwanese society. Shen’s works are published and exhibited both at home and abroad. He won the Golden Tripod Award of Best Photography (magazine category) of Taiwan in 2000 and 2002, and his Reflections of Nan-fang-ao and Taiwanese Cabaret series won the Asia Award in Sagamihara, Japan (2004), and the Best Foreign Photographer Award at the Dong-gang Photography Festival, Korea (2006), respectively.
Shen’s recent STAGE series, in which he documented a unique Taiwan entertainment culture in a surrealistic and colorful style of image, was exhibited in the 2008 Deagu Photo Biennale, Korea, and the 2009 GETXOPHOTO, Bilbao, Spain, and in a solo exhibition in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan, New York, US, and Toronto, Canada.  He is also invited at the 2010 Dali International Photography Exhibition, China, the 2010 Taiwan Biennale, the 2011 Contemporary Art Exhibition across the Strait in Beijing, China and Taichung, Taiwan, the 2011 Art Hong Kong, and the 2011 PHOTOQUAI, Paris, France.  In December, 2010, the series won him the Honorable Mention of 2010 Taipei Art Award.
Shen’s publications include Tsukiji Fish Market, YULAN Magnolia Flower, Reflections of Nan-Fang-Ao, and Brand 9 – the Creative Ideas of the World’s Nine Best-Selling Brands. Currently he is a freelancer and teaches photography at several universities in Taiwan.

States holds an MFA from Tyler School of Art and a BA from Evergreen State College. His book Cruising will be released in the fall of 2011 by Powerhouse Books. He received the Established Artist Grant from Delaware Division of the Arts in 2011.  He participated in Center’s Review Santa Fe in 2010 and was an Artist in Residence at Light Work in the summer of 2009. His work has been exhibited at venues including Hous Projects, New York; Randall Scott Gallery, Brooklyn NY; Greg Kucera Gallery, Seattle, WA; Chashama Time Square Gallery, New York City; Daniel Cooney Fine Art Online Auction; FLUXSPACE, Philadelphia, PA; Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts, Wilmington, DE; and Hunter College Times Square Gallery, New York City. His works on the permanent collections of Light Work in Syracuse, NY as well as Light Work Permanent Collection Syracuse University Syracuse, New York as well as the Julie Collins Smith Museum of Fine Arts at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama.

Gus Powell was born in New York City in 1974 and attended Oberlin College where he majored in comparative religion. He is best known for his street photography and a body of work that was inspired by Frank O'Hara's book Lunch Poems. The complete series was published as a monograph, titled The Company of Strangers, (J&L Books) and was exhibited as a solo show, titled "Manhattan Noon," at the Museum of the City of New York.

He is currently teaching in the graduate program at The School of Visual Arts, and is at work on a body of narrative images inspired by William Steig's 1942 book The Lonely Ones and Jacques Tati's 1967 film Play Time. Gus' photographs have been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, The Museum of Modern Art, and FOAM, NL.

His editorial work has appeared in publications like Vogue, BIG, Wired, Fortune and he is a regular contributor to The New Yorker magazine. His commercial clients include Adidas, Price Waterhouse Coopers, and the Gagosian Gallery.

Steven Brahms is a photographer, artist and director originally from Madison, Wisconsin. The day after receiving his BFA in Photojournalism from Rochester Institute of Technology, he moved to New York and quickly started his career as a photo editor for Bloomberg News. He honed his craft after working as an assistant and lighting director for some of the industries top photographers before going out on his own.
His work has been exhibited throughout the New York City area and in juried shows including The Art and Commerce Festival of Emerging Photographers. After winning their Early Entry Award, his first solo show opened March 2011 at 3rd Ward in Brooklyn, NY. Inspired by the Double Rainbow video, Brahms photographs people in Los Angeles, asking them to act as if they’ve just seen the most beautiful thing in the world.
His clients include M&C Saatchi, S Magazine, Spin, Vibe, and Blender. He is represented by Goldteeth & Co.
